Basque Cinema: An Introduction
Date
2003Type
BookDescription
This is the first comprehensive texbook in English for the study of Basque film. It provides an introductory course that is structured thematically and historically. Each chapter deals with an important aspect of the cultural, historical, and political background of the Basque Country and its cinematic representation. The lessons contain a set of introductory notes and study questions. The book also addresses critical issues of gender, identity and (post)national formations relevant to the Euskadi situation. Basque Cinema: An Introduction studies the paradoxical nature of Euskadi's relationship with its own cultural imaginary. This volume contextualizes the (in)visible tensions in cinematic productions that, despite many disavowals from their own creators, have already become true artistic landmarks at home and abroad.
